San Luis Obispo's weather is remarkably predictable: it's almost always sunny, clear, and pleasantly warm, with low humidity. Coastal fogs seldom reach far enough inland to cover San Luis, but the coastal breezes keep things temperate year-round. Summer days are usually in the 80's, while evenings are refreshingly crisp and cool. In the fall, sunny skies and warm weather still predominate, with occasional gusty winds. Our West Coast winter is cool but rarely cold, with lows in the 40's and highs in the 60's, with a backdrop of brilliant sunshine punctuated by occasional rainstorms. In spring, rain showers become less frequent and warmer temperatures return.

When venturing out of your San Luis Obispo hotel, layered clothing is best: pack a sweater and a windbreaker, rain gear if you are visiting us in winter, plus scarf and hat for those cool walks at sunset. But remember that daytime temperatures can climb into the 80's on a clear sunny day, even in winter. Sunscreen is a must if you'll be out for a while.

Good walking shoes or sneakers are recommended. This is California. Think casual!
