Winery of the Month – October 2015

Opolo Vineyards

We are proud to be partnering with Opolo Vineyards as our Winery of the Month during October. Everyday during the month at our Guest Wine Tasting Reception, we will be featuring tastes of their award winning varietals. Each Friday during this time, we will feature their winemaker or winery representative at our Guest Wine Tasting Reception. At our restaurant, be sure to order a flight of their delicious wines to pair with our local farm to table cuisine. Or join us for our Backyard Winemaker Dinner on Friday, October 30th at 6pm featuring Opolo wines paired with a five-course handcrafted menu.

Opolo Vineyards is located in the rolling hills of Templeton and Paso Robles and features a wide variety wines including their famous Mountain Zinfandel.

They say good fences make good neighbors, but it was a love of wine and winemaking that was the entrée between Opolo owners Rick Quinn and Dave Nichols. Their two families have lived side-by-side in Camarillo since 1996. As Nichols remembers, “I knew Rick to say hello to, but that was about it. Then one day, he said to me, ‘Hey Dave, I just planted 10,000 grapevines!’” And so began the evolution of Opolo.

Together they now own about 280 acres of vineyards in Paso Robles, about 200 acres on the Eastside and 80 on the Westside. The Westside vineyards are in the Adelaide hills, producing wines such as Pinot Noir and Sangiovese, while the Eastside properties produce varietals such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The majority of vineyards have been producing fruit since 1998, and a small percentage of it has been finding its way into wine made by Quinn and Nichols ever since.

Their tasting room is tucked just off Vineyard Drive in Templeton on a rustic road that takes past their Zinfandel Vineyards, owl boxes, oak trees and a meandering creek. It has “down to earth” winery feel and customer service takes center stage.
